Phone with the Proud home screen on orange and white blocks beside an electricity meter

When the power goes out, nobody wants to call a hotline. Proud puts the grid in the customer's pocket: planned outages, live faults, the low-tariff window and meter readings — for everyone connected to the ČEZ Distribuce network.

Context

ČEZ Distribuce runs the largest electricity distribution network in the Czech Republic. Customers used to reach it by phone, by letter or through a web portal few people opened; Proud is the network's direct line to the people on it, on iOS and Android. The app was designed at KPMG. Design lead on the project: flows, interface, user testing and day-to-day work with the development team.

Challenge

A distributor doesn't sell electricity — it delivers it. The app had to make that invisible infrastructure useful: tell a cottage owner when the power will be off, show a family when the cheap tariff starts, take a fault report from someone standing in a dark hallway, and walk a homeowner through unsealing a meter. Each is a separate flow with its own rules, and many people open the app only once something has already gone wrong.

Solution

The app is built around the customer's own supply points — a flat, a cottage — each with its status, consumption, distribution rate and low-tariff calendar. Outages sit one tab away, a fault report takes four short steps, and requests such as unsealing are tracked from submission to completion. Notifications announce the low tariff and planned outages before they happen; messages from the distributor land in one inbox. The key flows — fault reporting, meter readings, requests — were tested with users on prototypes before development, and the findings fed straight back into the design. Every screen was worked through with the development team state by state: empty, loading, error, success, light and dark.
